In FRIT 7232 I was in a small group that created a professional development grant proposal. Our group chose the school, chose a topic, and created a professional development proposal. Mary Lee Clark Elementary School has access to Google and all of the Google Applications. Only 5% of the teachers are fluent with Google. The proposal outlined a training session to train the teachers on the technology tools the school currently has. The project allowed our group to evaluate a real school and a real need. This assignment represents Element 1.1 because the proposal develops and implements the use of technology as a school. Mary Lee Clark Elementary has spent the money for a google account and all the google applications. The proposal unites teachers and staff on the same technology account. This assignment also represents Element 1.3 because the grant proposal offers research and recommends technology development in the school. The proposal researches the need, maps out the training, and creates a budget to implement school wide training on the same account and applications. This was near the beginning of my program and I enjoyed this assignment. I was new at the administrative side and funding programs. My team was awesome and we worked well together. I learned a lot from them to help shape me as an Instructional Technologist.
In FRIT 7331 I created a Strategic Management Plan in a small group. The group and I completed the project together. We created a complete management plan for an elementary school in Henry County. The plan includes the current demographics, the media center philosophy, policy, resources, technology, room space, and budget. We used this information to create a stakeholders survey and our suggestions for improving the media center in the future. This assignment changed my thought process to reflect the big picture. The solutions and ideas we created for this project reflected an entire school and not one classroom. I created a survey to look at the needs of the entire school. I looked at the current resources and decided where the Media Center needed improvement. The assignment is a great example of the type of research and decisions a program administrator must make. The strategic management plan represents Element 1.2 because the Media Center and the technology needs of the school was evaluated and a plan was created. This assignment was a struggle for me. I thought each step was redundant and I did not enjoy putting everything together. I was also working with a team who did not have the same work ethic as I do. At the end of the project I was proud of the end result. I understood the need for each step. This experience made me a better visionary leader because I was able to be the leader to a team who was not prepared for the project.
In FRIT 7231 I created and instructional design unit. The Instructional Design Unit is similar to the on-line unit, but a complete analysis of the school and the teachers was done before the lessons were created. The Instruction Design Unit consists of detailed research about the school, teachers, demographics, and current trends in the Georgia education system. At the time, Creek View Elementary had changed to the Common Core Standards and the teachers were in the process of changing their curriculum and the lessons. Veteran teachers became first year teachers again because they has to change all their lessons. The Instruction Design Unit was created to help teachers gather, organize, and share resources in order to make the transition easier. The Instructional Design Unit represents Element 2.6 because I used an Instructional Design model to research and create a technology lesson. The Instructional Design Unit removed me from the classroom teacher position. I was placed in the role of creating a lesson for a school or school district. I thought the multiple steps and the research was very important to creating a complete lesson for a large group. The assignment helped me use my previous knowledge as a teacher to think like an administrator.
