My practicum experience is almost over. I will miss working with Pam at AHS. The Media Specialist at AHS is hosting a discussion on Tweetdeck. She asked me to create a Powerpoint presentation on Personalized Learning and the Media Center. The discussion format is a list of questions about the topic to create a discussion. I have attached the Powerpoint I created for her. As always, I enjoy the research projects because I learn so much. I added new resources to my PLN. I think personalized learning is one area the Media Center can support the classroom. The Media Center could personalize lessons and assignments for students. The Media Center can also use technology to gather data on students in order for the teacher to personalize their learning.
I am becoming comfortable with the Media Center and I am able to help at the front desk while I am there. I assist students, answer questions for teachers, and help with projects. I was given a list of books with old publish dates and a list of books with multiple copies. I weeded the books based on the circulation history and removed them from the AHS catalog. Hours this Week: 9 Total Hours: 93 This week I spent time at my primary site. A Social Studies Instructor wanted to schedule class time in the Media Center.regularly use the media center for, "a change of scenery." I helped him look for dates and schedule his time. He brought a class to use the large television and DVD player to watch a movie. He would like to use the Media center to, "have a change of scenery." I helped the media specialist with day-to-day activities. I scanned a cart of Microsoft Surface tablets back nto the library inventory. I helped two engineering students use the 3D printer. The project rooms are very popular at the Media Center. The room are modern and the students can collaborate in groups. The walls can be used a white boards and their Microsoft Surface can be connected to the large interactive television. I create another google form to help the high school prepare for the testing. The students are taking tests on their Microsoft Surface. The form is a questionnaire about any surface issues. The school wants to address all problems before the testing.

I observed and completed a variety of technology and media activities this week. I spent time at CVES this week. Lora Wood, the Media Specialist, created a document on reading levels for the students. The students are tested and given a reading level from A - Z. The teachers ask them to read books in their level. Lora created a smore.com flyer with step-by-step instructions to find books by reading level. The library is not organized by reading level, but the library catalog allows students to enter their reading level and print a list of books in that reading level. She gave the students a tutorial using the flyer and she sent it to teachers. Lora also began new lessons for the month of March. We are in the last quarter of the school year and Lora chose to give technology lessons that prepared the students for their next step. The 5th grade lessons will prepare the students for using the Surface in the 6th grade. Lora explores One Note & Office 365 with the students. She also teaches them to multi-task on a surface (toggle between MacInvia for research and Office 365 for an assignment). The fourth grade lesson will prepare the students for the projects in 5th grade. Lora trains the students on Microsoft Sway and saving in Office 365.
This week at AHS I researched Safari Montage. The school has chosen to use Safari Montage and I wrote an information piece for the teachers. This is the first time I have heard the name Safari Montage. I enjoyed this task because I researched a technology tool I knew nothing about.

The students are taking a EOC (End of Course Testing) in April. The testing will completely done on their individual Microsoft Surface. I observed during a day the school had a technology check. Different classes rotated through the cafeteria. A teacher worked with the students in a large group to make sure they had the current updates, the application for the testing, etc.
Hours This Week: 8 Total Hours: 74 This week I learned about the new Breakot Boxes. The AHS Media Center ordered three boxes for the classrooms. The Media Specialist asked me to research the boxes, write an explanation, and find sample lessons. I have not heard of these before and I really enjoyed this task. I also created St. Patrick's Day key chains with the 3D printer. Below is the information I wrote about the Breakout Boxes. I researched new books for the high school level. I completed a list of suggestions for the Media Specialist. I also researched popular books the AHS library has in stock. I completed a list for the Media Specialist to do a display to promote reading. I enjoyed this task. I researched popular books. Then I cross referenced the list with books the Media Center has. I tried to find a variety of genre's and book titles that appeal to male readers. Break Out Boxes Do you want your students to, “think outside the box?” Do you want to challenge your students? The Media Center has Breakout Boxes you can use in your classroom. Breakout Boxes are portable kits that include everything you need to do a scavenger hunt type lesson in the classroom. There are lessons for every school subject. The Breakout kits include lessons and step-by-step instructions. What is a Breakout Box? A Breakout Box Is a portable lock box with all the tools to challenge your students. How do I use the Breakout Box in the classroom? You can download a complete lesson form Breakout Edu. You can also create your own lessons. https://games.breakoutedu.com/ Here are a few lesson examples Dr. Johnson Zombie Apocalypse: General Interest

The elementary school has a computer room and the students rotate through the Computer Lab as a special class (like art & PE). This week I observed a kindergarten class. The Computer Lab instructor taught the students to use a coloring and art creation software. The kindergarten students enjoyed the lesson. The younger age group is more comfortable with tablets than a large desktop computer. The students wanted to use their finger to touch the screen instead of using a mouse. The Computer Lab instructor also taught some students how to use the mouse to create their project. I also observed a testing lesson in the Computer Lab. Each grade level participates in Star testing. Star Testing is an assessment program that monitors the student's understanding in math and reading. The results give each teacher a n individualized report on each student. The students rotate through the Computer Lab to do their start testing. I observed a first grade classroom. The students completed a reading assessment. This class also had a tough time with the mouse. They wanted to touch the screen to answer the questions.
Hours This Week: 8 Total Hours: 66 This week I tackled a large project. I learned about the 3D Printer. The AHS media Center has a 3D printer but it was not linked to a computer and it was not used. I learned how to install the proper software onto a computer. I loaded the proper applications and MakerBot 3D printer is ready for use. I make a few designs with it during the bust times in the library. The students and teachers were very interested in watching the printer work. I also created complete instructions. I completed a large amount of research. The picture below is the shark I created in the printer. This is the information I collected when I researched the MakerBot 3D Printer: How to Print using the MakerBot application on the desktop: Go into Makerbot with the desktop application: Print: There are tabs on the top. Here is what the tabs do. Print choice #1: Explore allows you to search through different designs. Choose Explore Tab and look through different designs. You can look by category, most recent, popular, etc. You can also search with the search button. Download your choice. When the information is done downloading you will be given the choice to Prepare. At the bottom of the screen there is a list of items to prepare (some designs have multiple parts). Prepare the one you want to print. You will be taken to the prepare screen. Choose print. Print choice #2: Library Tab allows to you look at previous designs and designs you have saved to the Makerbot. Choose the design. I am extremely interested in the differences between each of the sites. The Media Specialist at the elementary school is fabulous. Her technology focus is teaching the students and the teachers about technology tools, websites, etc. She supports the classroom with lessons. The technology focus at the high school is technology tools and technology equipment. I like the contrast.

I spent time in the Middle School Media Center. The students have the 1:1 technology and the Media Center is the primary help center for the Microsoft Surface. The students sign in the kiosk and receive help. Some students have free periods and the help troubleshoot the technical problems with the surface. There are three designated periods that the students can come into the Media center for help. The Media Specialist also has software and hardware to create posters. I worked with the software and creating posters was fun and easy. The picture below is an international Night poster the Media Specialist created while I was there. The middle school is the least active Media Center of all my observation sites. The technology resources is limited. The media Specialist rarely loans out equipment because most of the classrooms are equipped with the type of resources in the library. The Media Center Specialist is Instructional Technology certified and she is trying to engage the classrooms and increase the traffic of the library.
I taught my collaboration lesson in a fifth grade classroom. I also observed a 2nd grade technology lesson. The collaboration lesson went well. Creek View Elementary is a PBL school. The fifth grade classrooms are working on a research project. I collaborated with a fifth grade teacher and created a lesson to support the current PBL project. The students completed a pre-assessment so I could determine the primary focus of the lesson. I focused on research strategies, information fluency, and safety. The lesson went well. The students were engaged and they asked some great questions. They took the post-assessment and all of the students did well. I left the written lesson for the teacher also so she could refresh the students minds as they continued to do research projects. I also observed in the Media Center with the Media Specialist. She taught a second grade lesson to two classes. The second grade is also doing a basic research project. She taught the students to use pebblego.com. This website is a user friendly research site for younger students. I also shared the digital citizenship resources I collected for the fifth grade collaboration lesson. I enjoyed my time this week.

I visited the high school this week. I continued my research on the different technology resources in the Media Center. This project has been an invaluable learning tool. I am learning about all of the technology resources the Media Center has to offer. Then I write a teaching piece on each. The best way to learn about something is to teach it. I wrote an information piece on the Microsoft Display Adapter. Here is the information piece below:
The Media Center can help you share ANY information in a presentation. What is the Microsoft Display Adapter? Wirelessly project what’s on your phone, tablet, or laptop to your big-screen HDTV or monitor.Stream movies, view personal photos, or display a presentation on a big screen – all wirelessly. What can I do with it in the classroom? You can project any information onto a HDTV for the classroom to view. Students can project projects and assignments from their surface onto a HDTV. You no longer have to worry about saving assignments and information to the correct device. How does it work? The Microsoft Wireless Display is easy to use. Just plug the USB and HDMI from the Wireless Display Adapter into your HDTV or monitor, connect, then mirror or extend your screen and enjoy. The Wireless Display Adapter delivers a reliable connection with up to a 23-foot range Hours This Week: 8 Total Hours: 44 I began my week at Creek View Elementary School. Creek View is different from my other two sites because this school does not have 1:1 technology. An important portion of the Media/Technology specialist at the middle & high schools is support for the Microsoft Surface. Creek View has scheduled classes that rotate through the Media Center. The Media Center is treated as a special class like art or PE. Creek View Elementary has changed to Project Based Learning (PBL) curriculum. The Media Specialist works with the PBL chair for each grade level to create lessons that support the classroom curriculum. This month the Media Center Specialist is teaching the 4th & 5th grade classes about Microsoft Sway and Office 365. Both grades will use Sway for reports and projects. Office 360 is a program that the students will regularly use in Middle School. This month the 3rd grade is learning about basic research. The Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grades are learning about Pebble go, which is a simple database for learning facts and research. I am looking forward to spending more time in the elementary school. The Media Center has an interactive white board and desktop computers to support the students and the staff. The Media Center Specialist is also the producer of the CNN morning show at Creek View. On Monday, Wednesday, & Friday the morning show is broadcasted over the interactive white boards in the classroom. Different students are chosen to discuss school news, lunch choices, and weather. I watched the Media Specialist produce the CNN morning show. She has a group of students that are her "tv crew' and they are responsible for the lighting and the camera. I love the idea of using students to create the show. I enjoyed watching. This week I helped in the Alpharetta High School Media Center during Anchor Time. Anchor Time is new to the school. Anchor Time is a one hour period on Tuesdays & Thursdays to work in small groups. Students who need remediation are assigned to a teacher. Special groups are given extra time together. The large area of the Media Center is used for small groups and remediation. The project rooms are used for various clubs. There is on technology based club that meets in the Media Center and offers IT support in the Media Center. TESLA (Technologically Enhanced Student Learning Assistants) is an after school club that works with technology. During Anchor time they meet in the Media Center. During free periods they are a Help desk for the Microsoft Surface.
Hours This Week: 10 Total Hours: 36 I visited Hopewell Middle School this week. The Media Center is a combination of books and technology. The Media Center Specialist supports technology tools and resources for the staff and the students. While I was observing the STEM class was using the computers and the technology in the Media Center. The students separated into groups of four. Each group created a game using technology. The students rotated to each station and played each game. I am a elementary school teacher. I enjoyed watching the older students use and interact with the technology. Hopewell Middle School has the 1:1 technology with the Microsoft Surface. While I was observing the Media Specialist helped students with issues and questions. There are designated class periods for students to obtain help with the Surface. Middle School is very different from elementary school and high school. There is much less traffic for books or resources. The majority of the patrons come into the Media Center for help with the surface. The Media Center has desktop computers, laptops, and various technology resources for the students. I am looking forward to spending more time at the Middle School. I also visited the Alpharetta High School. The Media Center Specialist is organizing her technology equipment and cleaning out any surplus items. I helped her match cords, remotes, keyboards, etc to create a complete package. She is offering the different equipment to the classroom teachers first. Then she will send any unwanted items to the county. I also created the attendance station for the Media Center. I moved the attendance sheet to the attendance Ipad. The Ipad will be in a kiosk in the front of the media center. I created the sign in sheet and the data is attached to a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will track the attendance per week.
